National Student Survey (NSS)
The National Student Survey (NSS)
is a national survey, which has been conducted by Ipsos MORI
annually since 2005. It gathers opinions from mostly final year
undergraduates on the quality of their courses. Aimed at current
students, the survey asks undergraduates to provide honest feedback
on what it has been like to study their course at their
institution.
The NSS is widely recognised as a
key measure of student satisfaction and as such the results are
highly visible and often reported in the media. As an annual
survey, it has helped to build a broader picture of the quality of
Higher Education and monitor trends over time.
Below is the annual overall
satisfaction performance of The Glasgow School of Art since it
first particpated in 2009:

Higher
Educational Statistical Agency (HESA)
The Higher Education Statistics
Agency (HESA) is the official agency for the collection,
analysis and dissemination of quantitative information about higher
education.
HESA release annual performance
indicators (PIs) for all higher education institutions and the
performance of GSA in the following overall categories are
monitored closely:
- Destination of Leavers from Higher Education (DLHE)
- Student Retention
- Students attending from State Schools or Colleges
- Proportion of Students in receipt of Disabled Students
Allowance
1. Destination of
Leavers from Higher Education (DLHE)
The DLHE surveys all students six
months after they have left an institution to ascertain what their
employment status is. The proportion of those who declare to be in
employment, self-employed or have gone on to further studyare
considered to have responded positively to the questionnaire and
reported in the results below.

2. Student
Retention
The Student Retention PI is
reported annually on the previous academic year's entrants. It
measures the proportion of new entrants who are still in attendance
after one year of study.

Further statistical information on
the GSA and UK higher education in general can be found on the
Higher Education Statistical Agency website or in a more user
friendly form on Unistats using the link below.
Unistats
Unistats is the official site that allows you to search for and
compare data and information on university and college courses from
across the UK.
The site draws on the following official data on higher
education courses:
- Student satisfaction from the National Student Survey
- Student destinations on finishing their course from the
Destinations of Leavers from Higher Education survey
- How the course is taught and study patterns
- How the course is assessed
- Course accreditation
- Course costs (such as tuition fees and accommodation)
This data is provided by the Higher Education Statistics Agency
(HESA), the Data Service, universities and colleges and Ipsos MORI
(National Student Survey).
Research
Assessment Exercise (RAE) 2008
The Research Assessment Exercise
was conducted jointly by the Higher Education Funding Council for
England (HEFCE), the Scottish Funding Council (SFC), the Higher
Education Funding Council for Wales (HEFCW) and the
Department for Employment and Learning, Northern Ireland (DEL).
The primary purpose of the RAE 2008
was to produce quality profiles for each submission of research
activity made by institutions. The four higher education funding
bodies intend to use the quality profiles to determine their grant
for research to the institutions which they fund with effect from
2009-10. Any HEI in the UK that is eligible to receive research
funding from one of these bodies was eligible to participate.
