Dr. Matthieu Poyade

Matthieu Poyade is a Research Fellow in 3D Programming at the School of Simulation and Visualisation of The Glasgow School of Art. He is also a lecturer in Volumetric Visualization in the MSc. programme of Medical Visualisation and Human Anatomy jointly offered by the Digital Design Studio and the University of Glasgow, and a lecturer in Motion Capture and Interaction in the MSc. Programme of Serious Game Development offered by the School of Simulation and Visualisation.

He completed his PhD in Human Computer Interaction at the University of Malaga, Spain. His PhD thesis investigated the development of fine motor skills using haptic force feedback devices for industrial maintenance tasks.

His activities at the Digital Design Studio include research projects in medical simulation to support the development of procedural and motor skills, and the development of industrial simulator for commercial purpose. He also a particular interest in the use of haptic devices, stereoscopic and tracking technologies to enhance users’ interaction and immersion within virtual environments.

Before joining the Digital Design Studio, he was working as Research Associate at the University of Malaga, Spain. He has participated in a major EU funded project, ManuVAR, which investigates the development of a methodological and technological framework including AR/VR, to support the product lifecycle of European industries. He has presented his work outcomes in journal papers, international conferences. Some of his developments have also been presented recently in technological exhibition showcases such as Top Coder Open 2014 in San Francisco and Consumer Electronic Show CES2015 in Las Vegas.
