Steve Rigley

Steve Rigley is a designer, lecturer and writer based in the department of Communication Design, where he leads the Graphic Design pathway.

He has contributed papers to a number of journals and International conferences including the Association Typographique Internationale, the Design Research Society, the AIGA and the World Design Congress, and has been a visiting lecturer at institutions in Europe, India, China and the USA. Steve has been a regular contributor to Eye: The International Journal of graphic design, and has contributed to The Graphic Design Reader (Bloomsbury 2019) and the Phaidon Archive of Graphic Design (2012). In 2011 he was the recipient of a UKIERI exchange award with the National Institute of Design in India. In 2017-18 he was part of a team commissioned by the British Council and the Indian Design Council to deliver a series of workshops considering the future of design education in India. More recently Steve has been part of a CHEAD funded cross-institutional research team focusing upon the performance of graphic design in REF 2014.

Steve's current research interests focus upon the relationship between typography and concrete poetry and how the mapping of practice and creative writing may be used as tools for understanding graphic design history.
