Terence Heng

Terence Heng is a photographer and sociologist. He graduated from the University of Oxford with an MSc in Management Research and from Goldsmiths, University of London with a PhD in Visual Sociology.

His research interests include Chinese diasporic identities in Singaporean weddings, the visual and cultural landscapes of Singapore, as well as the use of photography in the social sciences. He has published one book, From Where I’m Standing (2005), and his work has been featured in journals such as Cultural Geographies, Sociological Research Online and Church + Society in Asia Today.
Terence is involved in the Bukit Brown Cemetery documentation project in Singapore, where he is visually documenting the various rituals of remembrance, forgetting and performance that surround graves and graveyards. He is also analysing the use of transient Chinese religious aesthetic markers and their place in commercial spaces.
