Alex Pollard

Alex Pollard is an artist based in Glasgow. Pollard’s practice is located largely within painting, often employing strategies of appropriation and détournement within this field, opening up contextually sensitive and critically active Post Net debates. Some of Pollard’s recent work has focused on the potential of painting’s relationship to networks – which he has explored through the ongoing collaborative production of caricature doormats that blend a faux-minimalist format with insulting but humorous drawings of him made by friends, acquaintances and art world contacts.

Examples of this work can be seen in his contribution to the Santorini Biennale in 2012 and in his participation in ‘The Irregular Correct – New Art from Glasgow’ at the Fremantle Art Centre in Australia, 2012. (which can be seen at www.pollardalex.com)

In 2005 Pollard represented Scotland at the Venice Biennale and since then has shown his work in Europe, USA and Australia. In 2011 Pollard was awarded the Creative Scotland Amsterdam Residency and he is now currently a practice based PhD candidate at Goldsmiths College, London.
