Opening Hours:
Monday - Friday 9:30am - 5pm 

The technical facilities based within the Fashion & Textiles department comprise of specialist workshop areas for:

  • Fashion: cutting tables, industrial sewing machines & finishing machines.
  • Embroidery: equipment for hand, machine & computerised embroidery.
  • Knit: both domestic & industrial knitting machines.
  • Print: comprising three nine meter textile print tables and two heat presses. Also a dye lab for dyeing fabric and mixing dyes.
  • Weave: range of hand looms and two computer controlled Jacquard looms.

Access is only granted for those who have been fully inducted. Specialist inductions are arranged for students on Textiles and Fashion programmes. Individual inductions and/or access for projects may be arranged via the project proposal process

Fashion & Textile Design students pay workshop fees that covers base material use, non F&T students may be asked to pay a daily fee for access.

Wide format printing & scanning

In addition to the above areas there are wide format printing & scanning facilities available on the Reid ground floor. There is no access fee for this area although F&T students benefit from reduced print prices due to their workshop fee, it is open to all students without induction, jobs & access are on a first come first served basis. An area technician is on hand to print & scan and to offer advice. Normal access is 9.30am - 5pm Monday to Friday.

This area offers: 

  • Wide format printing on tracing paper (89cm wide) @ £5.00 per metre for non F&T students.
  • Super heavyweight matt paper (104cm wide) @ £8.50 per metre for non F&T students.
  • Textile & signage vinyl cutting @ £9.00 per metre.
  • Wide format scanner can scan up to 107cm (42”) wide (there is currently no charge for using this machine).
