My role as a weave technician within GSA requires me to work closely with the students, delivering workshops and providing specialist knowledge and support regarding the daily technical challenges they face when weaving. My responsibilities include the care and maintenance of the looms, machinery and equipment within the workshop including the Jacquard Loom. These facilities vary in age and technology - from 50 year old traditional dobby looms to the latest electronic studio looms. Other responsibilities include:

• Coordinating a busy workshop environment to ensure that all students have the right access to facilities and that they have a safe environment to work in.

• Writing technical notes that are valuable learning resources for students of all abilities.

• Keeping a balance of traditional and contemporary techniques, knowledge and skills whilst ensuring we are keeping abreast with new developments in industry, trends, technology and software packages.

I enjoy pushing the boundaries of what we can do in the workshop and working alongside the students to help them discover their technical potential.

I am a practising textile designer and weaver based in Glasgow who specialises in creating boldly patterned, high quality fabric using a range of luxury fibres and playful colour combinations. My designs are intended to be statement pieces within the home and I strive to create contemporary, striking and stylish interior products and accessories. I established my business in early 2014 and sell my work through boutiques such as Concrete Wardrobe in Edinburgh and exhibited as part of Many Studios takeover at the Virginia Galleries.

My passions and interest lie in innovative construction techniques and mesmerising surface pattern. I take inspiration from architectural details, antiques, odd objects, people and places, film, unusual compositions and street photography.

Graduating from The Glasgow School of Art in 2010 with a BA(Hons) in Textile Design, I went on to work with Margo Selby in London for six months assisting in weaving samples for the book “Contemporary Weaving Patterns”. Additional industry experience includes Melin Tregwynt mill in Wales.

At present I also work as a part time lecturer at Glasgow Clyde College teaching on their new weave course in conjunction with Heriot Watt University and am a member of the Incorporation of Weavers at Trades House in Glasgow.
