Profile:Archie McCall BA(Hons) PGDip Archie McCall has been Head of the Department of Ceramics since 1992. Between 1997-1998 he was Deputy Chair of the School of Design. He was born in Dumfries and studied at Edinburgh College of Art. Between 1970-1973 he became an apprentice potter to John Davey in Bridge of Dee, Kirkcudbrightshire and then established his own studio in Garlieston, Wigtownshire. He began full time teaching at the Glasgow School of Art in 1986. Solo exhibitions of McCall's ceramics include Kecskemet, Hungary, Beaver Galleries, Canberra and the Mura Clay Gallery, Sydney. His work is in several public collections including the Royal Scottish Museum, Edinburgh, Australian National University Collection, Canberra, and Kansas State University, USA. He has been a visiting lecturer in many institutions, including Cumbria College of Art and Design, International Academy of Ceramics, Ontario School of Art and Design, Toronto, Muchina School of Art and Industry, St. Petersburg, National Art School, Sydney and Maryland Institute College of Art, Baltimore, USA. He is a full member of the Craftsmen Potters Association of Great Britain and a member of the Scottish Crafts Collection Selection Committee. He has been an external assessor at Crawford College of Art, Cork and Limerick College of Art in the Republic of Ireland.
