Margaret Macdonald House comprises 18 self-catering flat accomodating 115 students (4, 5, 6 OR 8 students per flat).

RENTS

For session 2010/2011 rents are:

The Accommodation Offer Pack contains a Lease Agreement which details amounts and payment dates. Electricity by powermeter and laundry use are an additional cost; it is recommended that £5-7 should be budgeted weekly for power and £3.00 per wash/dry load.

ACCOMMODATION DEPOSIT

A deposit of £125 is required to confirm your acceptance of an offer of accommodation. Of the £125 - £100 is a returnable damage deposit and subject to satisfactory inspection, this deposit will be returned to you within 4 weeks of your departure from halls. The remaining £25 is a contribution to the halls social fund which is administered by the Hall Committee and used to subsidise a variety of social events which you will be able to attend.

STAFF

A residential Warden and 4 Senior Residents are available onsite and live within the accommodation. A Residence Manager is available onsite during office hours.

TELEPHONES + INTERNET ACCESS

Each flat has a payphone that accepts incoming calls. Each block also has a phone card telephone that accepts phone/credit cards.
Bedrooms have internet access with IPTV for use with the resident's own laptop/computer. This cost of this service is included with weekly rent.

LAUNDRY

The laundry has 2 washers and 2 dryers with almost 24 hours/7 days a week access. A wash cycle costs £2.00 and drying £1.00 for 50 minutes.

LOST KEYS

A replacement set of keys can be issued at a cost of £20 - this cost will be charged against your deposit and refunded only if the original set of keys and the replacement set are returned.

INSURANCE

The Glasgow School of Art organises a block insurance policy that generally covers residents' personal possessions to the value of £4000. Additional cover and cover for items excluded from the policy, such as cycles, surfboards and mobile phones, must be organised individually. The Accommodation Offer Pack contains insurance leaflets and details on how you can ensure that you are covered to the extent that you require.

SMOKING

The Glasgow School of Art operates a non smoking policy. For this reason the residential accommodation is designated non smoking.

FIRE

The residence has an automatic fire alarm system. Fire extinguishers and blankets are located throughout.

CYCLES

The accommodation offers 2 external, open cycle racks for locking bikes. Residents are not permitted to keep cycles inside the building - under any circumstances.

CAR PARK

A limited number of spaces are available in the accommodation car park. There is restricted access due to an underpass entrance and controlled gate entry. For an additional £50 deposit, students with cars will be given fob access for the gates and there are a number of fobs which can be borrowed for visitors. Subject to the satisfactory return of the fob, this deposit will be returned to you within 4 weeks of your departure from halls.
