Deutsche Bank launched the Deutsche Bank Awards for Creative Enterprises scheme in 1993 to offer practical and financial support to artists, craftspeople, designers and performers to start a business or carry out a project in that crucial year after leaving college. In 2012, they selected fifteen winners from thirteen UK top arts colleges.

Winner 2015: Michael Tougher

Michael Tougher graduated from Product Design Engineering in 2015, and is now Director of Spark and Rocket Ltd., a design and invention company. He is also a GSA Designer in Residence and, in addition, has been awarded a Royal Society of Edinburgh/Scottish Enterprise Enterprise Fellowship.

'Having studied Product Design Engineering at Glasgow School of Art I am equipped with design and engineering skills as well the ability to understand and design for users’ needs. GSA were instrumental in encouraging me to apply for and helping me win two very important Awards, The Design Innovations in Plastic and The Deutsche Bank Creative Enterprise Awards. The benefits from both these competitions gave me the confidence, training and funding to start my own business. GSA continue to support me by offering me a Designer in residence role giving me access to a space, the workshop and utilities as well as advice and support from staff members. For a new business this support is invaluable to me. I have benefited greatly from GSA and Product Design Engineering alumni in particular. Free advice and help from this community has accelerated my business in great ways.'
