Scholarships
We have one doctoral AHRC scholarship in the area of
Design available for 2011-2012, and one scholarship per year in the
area of Fine Art for 2012-2013 and 2013-2014.
Eligibility: Candidates need to have been offered a place in
order to be eligible to the GSA AHRC scholarships (new applications
are welcome before the deadline, just follow the instructions on
this page); The applicant needs to demonstrate competency in the
area in which the scholarship is advertised; The candidate needs to
meet the residency requirements as set by the AHRC for PG
studentships (see www.ahrc.ac.uk)
The doctoral scholarship is for a maximum of three years
full-time or five years part-time funding.

Scottish Overseas Research Award Scheme
(SORSAS)
We have some funding available for SORSAS. Only overseas
students with an offer to study full-time for a PhD at the GSA are
eligible for this scheme. The scheme covers a minimum of 3000 GBP
and a maximum of the difference between home and overseas fees. The
amount successful applicants get will be at the discretion of the
panel.
The application comprises a short form and two 500-word
references, as well as transcripts of previous degrees. The
deadline for applications is Friday 10 June 2011. For an

forms and references will need to be submitted electronically.
Marshall Scholarships
Postgraduate students from North American studying at the GSA
can now apply for a Marshall Scholarship.
Marshall Scholarships finance young Americans of high ability to
study for a degree in the United Kingdom. At least forty Scholars
are selected each year to study either at graduate or occasionally
undergraduate level at an UK institution in any field of study.
Each scholarship is held for two years.

Scotland's Saltire Scholarships
These Scholarships replace the previously available Scotland-USA
Scholarships. From 2009, these exciting scholarship opportunities
are open to nationals from:
- Canada
- China
- India, and
- the USA
The awards aim to encourage bright, talented and hard working
individuals to live, work and study in Scotland. You will
experience a rich and vibrant culture and make new friends and
contacts from Scotland and around the world.
Three awards worth £2,000 (GBP) towards your fees are available
for applicants to full time taught Masters Programmes at GSA.
Not only will you gain an internationally recognised
qualification at a world class art school, but you will enhance
your career prospects with the chance to apply for the Fresh
Talent: Working in Scotland Scheme (FT:WiSS), which allows
international students to remain in Scotland for 2 years upon
successful graduation to live and work in Scotland.
The scholarships are supported and funded by the Scottish
Government in partnership with universities in Scotland and the
British Council.

use the form on the above website for 2011/2012 awards, though
these application forms must then be submitted to scholarships@gsa.ac.uk to be processed along

Fulbright
Created in the aftermath of the Second World War through the
efforts of Senator J. William Fulbright, The Fulbright Programme
promotes peace and understanding through educational exchange.
Senator Fulbright believed that this would be an essential vehicle
for mutual understanding between individuals, institutions and
future leaders.
Today, the Fulbright Programme is one of the most prestigious
awards programmes world-wide, operating in 144 countries and with
51 commissions. More Fulbright alumni have won Nobel Prizes than
those of any other academic programme, including two in 2002.
The US-UK Fulbright Commission was created by treaty on 22
September 1948 and since its inception has expanded its programme
to include grants for study in a wide variety of fields. MBA
awards, filmaking, sports science, performing arts, science,
politics, history, literature and dance to name a few. Since 1949,
approximately 15,000 UK Nationals have studied in the US and nearly
27,000 US Nationals in the UK on Fulbright Educational Exchanges
out of over 200,000 Fulbright alumni worldwide.

Fulbright USA Postgraduate Student Award
The Fulbright Awards are prestigious awards and 2012/13 will be
the first year one will be on offer to a GSA applicant.
Each year up to 9 awards are offered to US citizens for the
first year of Master's or PhD study in any discipline at any
accredited UK university. Candidates will be selected by the US-UK
Fulbright Commission and the Institute of International Education
(IIE) to receive grants to be used towards tuition fees and
maintenance costs in their first year of postgraduate study in the
UK.

Awards can be up to £20,000 to cover fees and maintenance for an
American citizen applying to The Glasgow School of Art for
postgraduates programmes starting in 2012.
To be eligible you must:
- be a US citizen (resident anywhere but the UK) applying for a
PG Programme at the GSA in 2012/13
- show rigour in scholarly enquiry and academic or professional
excellence
- have strong reasons for wishing to pursue the proposed project
in the UK
- have interest in the peoples and cultures of the UK
- have a clear set of objectives for the Fulbright year
- show commitment to the host community through volunteer and
extra-curricular activity
Applications for Fulbright awards are NOT accepted by the GSA.

Deutscher Akademischer Autauschdienst - German Academic
Exchange Service
DAAD currently sponsors approximately 170 German Undergraduate,
Masters, Doctorate and Postdoctoral students studying at UK
universities.
GSA students from Germany have in recent years benefited from
these scholarships.
