Julian Lewis is a director and co-founder of East. He has extensive experience of developing ideas, design and research as well as project implementation on a wide range of building, landscape and urban design projects.

He is Urban Design Advisor to the London Development Agency, a member of the Newham Design Advisor Panel, and has been teaching and lecturing nationally and internationally since 1992, having held a Diploma Unit teaching post at London Metropolitan University for 8 years. He is a visiting professor at the school of architecture in Mendrisio, Switzerland.

Julian led the implementation of Acton Town Square, which won the London Planning Award for Best Community Initiative. He also led the project for a new square and market place at Bermondsey Square, South London, which won the London Planning Award for Best Public Space in London. He led the design for two School Projects in Islington and Tonbridge and is leading on a new Spatial Masterplan for the Royal Docks in London.

Julian has contributed two essays to the biography on East; 'Expressing Interest', launched recently to coincide with the opening of an exhibition about East at London Metropolitan University.

Hosted by The Mackintosh School of Architecture, the Architecture Friday Lecture Series looks beyond buildings and makes connections between architecture and wider issues like culture and the urban environment.
