Artists are often encouraged to be intellectual, but how often are intellectuals encouraged to be artistic or creative? Kortney Ryan Ziegler will discuss her experience as a creative intellectual who utilizes several artistic arenas to investigate the artistic/intellectual/political lives of queer African Americans.

Kortney Ryan Ziegler is a 28-year old Genderqueer/Trans-Curious award-winning Filmmaker and scholar of African American Studies at Northwestern University. They are currently writing their dissertation on representations of sex, sexuality, and kink in queer performance and cinema, while in pre-production for their next experimental short film about children growing up with mentally ill parents.

Hosted by The School of Fine Art, The Friday Event Lecture Series is The Glasgow School of Art's flagship public lecture series, and brings major international speakers (including artists, architects, designers, historians and cultural theorists) to the city of Glasgow. This event was presented in collaboration with Document 7 International Human Rights Documentary Film Festival, 21 - 25 Oct 2009.
