Mackintosh School of Architecture Undergraduate Showcase 2015

Stage 3 Architecture students from the Mackintosh School of Architecture celebrate their year's work with a showcase at Gallery@OXO Tower, London.

The exhibition is entirely student-led and encompasses two projects. Our principle project responds to the historic textile industry of Glasgow. Following extensive research - visiting mills, producing fabrics, interviewing weavers - we have each designed a building with workshop and exhibition spaces for a collective of textile manufacturers. Sites for this project are located on a weir in Glasgow’s Pollok Park - extensive and beautiful parkland. In reference to this, we plan to digitally print our work onto fabric (which we have already sampled to great effect) and suspend it from the ceiling. The Second project concerns cityscape and urban renewal. For a specific location in the Southside of Glasgow, each student has proposed an intervention that aspires to restore the richness of the city’s urban fabric. 1 xamples of this include urban farming, adventure playgrounds, community bakeries, and a ‘people’s parliament’. Much of this was about speaking to people in the community - understanding their culture, their needs, the rhythm of their daily lives.
