What's Love Got To Do With It?: Performance by Charlie Jeffery

Tuesday 9 January 2018
Reid Gallery, 1-2pm

What's Love Got To Do With It? is a project exploring collaboration, exhaustion and love in the field of artistic practice. For further information click here.

A performance based on a list of love songs and the desire to sing them in a collective performance. Jeffery has a processual working practice, sourced from materials found on site, exploring their qualities and changing their values. Along with his sculptures, Jeffery produces videos, drawings and performances. The question of language is central to his work. With its expressions, its rhythms, its tensions, language must be perceived as a plastic medium, malleable, imbued with exponential qualities, sometimes pouring into the absurd or the unpredictable.

Jeffery is based in Paris and Marseille. Two residencies have particularly marked his career to date: the Pistoletto Foundation, Cittadellarte in Biella in Italy in 2001 and Le Synagogue de Delme in 2010. One of his most recent performances was for Le Nouveau Festival at Le Centre Pompidou in 2015. Two solo exhibitions, very representative of his abundant and eclectic style, were devoted to him at the Quartier, Center for Contemporary Art in Quimper, France, in 2011 (cur. Keren Detton) and most recently at the Kunsthalle Lingen, Germany, in 2016 (cur. Peter Lütje). He is represented by Florence Loewy gallery in Paris.
