Ms Rosalie Menon has been a lecturer of Architectural Technology at the Mackintosh School of Architecture in Glasgow since 2005. She is also a key member of the research unit MEARU (Mackintosh Environmental Architectural Research Unit) which has an established track record of high quality research into environmental architecture. Before taking up her post at the Mackintosh School of Architecture, she was Design Studio tutor at Strathclyde University Architecture Department (2000-2005) and was a practicing architect with the international multidisciplinary firm RMJM (2001-2004). Whilst undertaking a variety of refurbishment and new build projects her experience is predominantly within high density housing design. Rosalie’s research interests, which relate closely to her practice and teaching, include sustainable initiatives in residential developments; the use of indigenous building materials and techniques in contemporary construction and the integration of technical knowledge in the creative design process. She is currently a co-investigator in the EPSRC funded project to assess the environmental impact of domestic laundering in the UK context. Internationally disseminated research is mainly in the application of renewable forms of energy in the built environment whilst ongoing consultancy is focused at low energy housing in both the public and private sector. Rosalie is currently company secretary of the Scottish Solar Energy Group (SSEG) assisting in the knowledge transfer of solar applications in Scotland.
