Brian is a designer and researcher with extensive experience in the
graphic design industry in Ireland and Canada, working for both
cultural and commerical sector clients. Before joining the Institute
for Innovation Design he tutored at Central Saint Martins in London,
where he continues to conduct a practice-based PhD in information
design. Here, his research focuses on the design of mobile wayfinding
applications aimed at walkers. Drawing on visual, social and
geographic methodologies he is exploring potential for such
applications to encourage walking while allowing the user to maintain
a high-level of situational awareness. His work has been published in
both the UK and Ireland. He has also spoken at several international
conferences, including ATypI (Association Typographique Internationale).
