Professor Norman McNally

Formerly a furniture and industrial designer in an international studio, his pioneering work for both the Product Design Engineering and the Master of European Design at the Glasgow School of Art led to the UK’s inaugural Sir Misha Black Award for Innovation in Design Education. Alongside this, his joint development of the International ‘Master of Design for Society’ programme in Seville, focusing on cultural challenges and design sustainability issues graduated its first students at the end of November 2003.

He has taught widely and conducted intensive design workshops In North America, Asia and throughout Europe, Chairman of the Jury for the 2005 Austrian Design Awards, external Member of Council for Heriot Watt University. His most recent engagements have been as the Royal Academy of Engineering Visiting Professor in Innovation at Strathclyde University and leadership of the Innovation Studio in the PSSD Masters at Politecnico Milano. He was external consultant for design of the Heibei Province Stand at the 2010 Shanghai World Expo.

A self-confessed 'failed retiree' he is currently innovation leader for the Institute of Directors 'Leadership for Growth' initiative in Scotland and is retained by Instituto Europeao di Design Madrid for development of a new global network in trans disciplinary design.
