‘Enjoy your meal’: design tools and strategies to improve the post-stroke mealtime experience in rehabilitation.

Supervisors: Professor Alastair Macdonald, Dr Gordon Hush

Design thinking to improve patient’s well-being during stroke rehabilitation has been my area of interest.

As a PhD student at the Glasgow School of Art funded by FCT – Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (QREN, POPH e Fundo Social Europeu). The research focuses on co-design and participatory design methods into the improvements of the mealtime for patients during stroke rehabilitation. The research uses visual techniques to illustrate the patient’s mealtime experience.

Previously in Portugal I conducted design research into the improvements of the patient's autonomy whilst eating during stroke rehabilitation.

Through research, I have developed an NHS network of collaborators in Portugal and Scotland. Additionally, from both research projects I have enhanced my experience and understanding these research fields.
