The Digital Design Studio (DDS) is a research and commercial centre of the Glasgow School of Art specialising in advanced 3D visualisation and interaction technologies. Core research focuses on developing new techniques for interaction, user oriented interfaces, haptics, gesture, 3D sound and real-time photorealistic 3D visualisation. The DDS undertakes projects from basic, strategic and applied research through to consultancy and technology transfer, with research and industrial contracts spanning arts, science and engineering disciplines.
The DDS has been successful in securing research funding from SFC, EPSRC, AHRC, NESTA, and the EU. In addition it has completed a Scottish Enterprise Proof of Concept (PoC) and a Knowledge Transfer Partnership. It was successful in winning an RCUK Academic Fellowship in 2006.
The DDS has a large portfolio of projects with business and industry in Scotland, the UK and Europe, centred on expertise in real-time 3D visualisation, 3D sound, modelling and animation. It has created strategic partnerships with QinetiQ (formerly DERA), Arup Acoustics, Leica, Enterprise plc, Picsel Technologies, The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, local government and local businesses.
