Programme Overview

Using a limited palette employed by the Glasgow School of Art in 1910, students will become adept at palette layout and the stages of building a painting, freeing them to work more intuitively. Close attention will be given to manipulating paint, luminosity, spectral colour and purposeful treatment of lost and found edges in the figure ground relationship. Composition will be examined throughout the course. Constructing the figure as a convincing volumetric form, opens the way for exaggeration and more creative manipulation.

The course objective is to offer ways for students to use what they see, what they know and what they feel in tandem, to advance their work. Although this course is geared to students who have experience in drawing and painting the nude figure, committed beginners will be accommodated.
