Black and White Portraiture from the Victorian Era.
Tutor Sam Dransfield
Location Richmond Building
Places 10
Time 10.00am – 4:00pm
Fee £140

Inside the “smoke-blackened” Richmond building’s photographic lighting studio,
students will have the chance to experience the portraiture of the Victorian Era. The course will retrace some of the techniques and forms typical of the early history of photography beginning with camera obscura and pinhole photography. You will then be encouraged further to investigate some of the more unusual techniques of the period, such as Victorian leaning posts; which were used to keep their sitters still to accommodate for the long exposures needed to register an image during a portrait. There will be a chance to make your own photo-locket or carte de visite. Technical demonstrations alongside individual tuition will form the basis for this unique insight into the skills and techniques of Victorian Portraiture.

Introduction to Basic Principles of Digital Film Making

The short film outline will focus on telling a story in ten shots of a chosen topic and students will work in groups to write and film the story line. Students will also be introduced to basic
editing techniques in Final Cut Pro to complete their project.
