Programme Overview

Sculpture is one of the most versatile of contemporary artistic mediums while having one of the strongest traditional historical backgrounds.  Our courses aim to balance these two aspects of sculpture while providing students with fundamental skills of the trade including casting, throwing and hand building forms.

Evening Courses

Figurative Sculpture

Sculpting in clay directly from the nude life model, this hands-on course is designed to broaden your observation skills and teach you various hand-building techniques.  You will receive instruction both as a group and individually, covering surface treatment techniques, painting and finishing, as well as guidance on firing.

Sculpture Workshop

This course introduces you to the fundamental techniques, materials and equipment used to create sculpture.  With a varied approach to ideas and methods of construction, you will learn how to manipulate a range of materials. With an emphasis on contemporary techniques in casting, students will aim towards a developed piece of cast sculptural work by the end of the course.

Ceramics Workshop

Ceramics offers a wide range of exciting creative possibilities, with easy-to-learn techniques leading on to the more advanced.  The course will include throwing on the wheel, press moulding, pinch, coil and slab work as well as a wide range of surface decoration.
