INTRODUCTION TO DRAWING AND PAINTING

Week 1 | 26 June to 30 June 
This course is designed for beginners, or those with limited experience that want to enhance their knowledge and skills of drawing and painting further. Working from still life and sourced images, you will be introduced to fundamental drawing and painting techniques, receiving step by step instruction throughout. You will learn about the nature and use of materials, tone, composition, and colour through a series of progressive exercises designed to suit each individual’s interests and stage of development.

INTRODUCTION TO OIL PAINTING

Week 2 | 3 July to 7 July 
This course is designed for anyone using oil paint for the first time, or those with limited experience that want to enhance their knowledge and skills of drawing and painting further. Oil paint is a lot of fun and, with the right approach, is easier for beginners to use than people sometimes assume. Working from still life and photographic images you will receive step-by-step instruction throughout. You will learn about the nature and use of the materials, tone, composition and colour through a series of progressive exercises designed to suit each individual’s interests and stage of development.

SKETCHBOOK: EXPLORING IDEAS AND TECHNIQUES

Week 2 | 3 July to 7 July 
Working in your sketchbook you will be introduced to a range of techniques and processes of drawing, collage, and mixed media. Later in the week we will work on location around Glasgow to gather visual material. Returning to the studio you will use these techniques alongside your reference material to develop your personal interests. We will also explore other artist’s work relevant to this process. By the end of the week you will have explored a range of approaches to drawing and recording material and will have developed this into a personal collection of work in your sketchbook.

EXPERIMENTS IN PAINT AND PRINT 
Tutor Cathy Campbell 
Week 2 | 3 July to 7 July 
This course will familiarise you with ways of developing your artistic and creative skills. You will expand your methods of resourcing and responding to subject matter while exploring new approaches in your creative practice. Through a series of exercises, you will work with a variety of techniques and media, including mono-printing, collage, painting (water based - acrylic, watercolour, gouache, inks) and relief printing. The aims of this course are to expand your conceptual approach whilst developing knowledge and skills in media handling and process. The relaxed and supportive atmosphere is very conducive to individual and group explorations. By the end of the week you will have a body of work and broadened outlook which reflects a busy and creative week.

ACRYLIC PAINTING

Week 3 | 10 July to 14 July 
Acrylic paint is a versatile medium offering a variety of options to explore spontaneous and controlled approaches to artmaking. In this course we will cover traditional and experimental methods to painting in acrylic. The course will include a survey of colour theory and composition using still life as well as your own photographs and imagination. This course is suitable for both beginners and more experienced artists.

ASSEMBLAGE 
Tutor Myra Ostacchini
Week 3 | 10 July to 14 July 
This experimental course is designed for beginners and experienced artists wishing to enhance their knowledge of collage and assemblage. Participants should come ready to play, risk, invent and discuss. We will experiment using a variety of collage techniques using found images, drawing, painting and paper to create beautiful images from unexpected connections. We will explore paper collage, box assemblage art, mixed media collage and sculptural assemblage. We will collect materials from surrounding areas working in location. Images, papers and found elements will be supplied and participants can bring along their own collections.

OIL PAINTING – THE NEXT LEVEL

Week 3 | 10 July to 14 July 
This course is designed for those who have used oil paint before and who wish to advance the development of their work in rendering a greater sense of three dimensional space and realism. In addition to colour mixing, tone, composition and the application of paint being explored through a series of progressive exercises, the course also aims to alter the students way of seeing and interpreting of subject matter

Eligibility: Please note, courses are open to anyone over the age of 16 and we welcome students of all levels of ability. Some of these courses are suited to advanced level students and this information will be included in the course title or description.

Materials: Students will be asked to provide their own materials unless otherwise stated. A materials list will be provided when courses are confirmed.
