Study at the GSA is done through one of three Schools: Fine Art; Design; and the Mackintosh School of Architecture. The focus of all courses is studio practice, and whilst not all students at GSA get allotted studio space in the famous Mackintosh Building, the provision of individual studio space to both undergraduate and postgraduate students, is one of our major strengths, as is individual tuition.

Study Abroad & Exchange: How to Apply >

Study Abroad

Study abroad (visiting) students should ensure their application is submitted in time for the official deadline: 1 April for Fall start dates and 15 October for January start.

Please note 15 October deadline may NOT be used for EXCHANGE students.

Applications will continue to be reviewed after the deadline, but as space is limited on many programmes, we recommend you submit your application prior to the above dates. All applications will be considered as a group, so January start applications will only be looked at after 15 October deadline.

Applying for Study Abroad

To apply please use the link to the application form on the top right of this page. This form is a PDF file. Most applications will be made through your home school's Study Abroad office, who will collect applications and portfolios and mail them on your behalf to the GSA. Your application should contain a portfolio of your work - 15-20 images usually on a CD, two references from your home school and a personal statement outlining your artistic interests and how you feel these will be met at GSA.

Study Abroad students pay our international tuition fees in proportion to their period of study i.e. full-year, Term 1 only, Terms 2 and 3 only.

Exchange

The Glasgow School of Art welcomes applications from students studying at one of our recognised partner institutions. There is only one deadline for incoming Exchange students: 1 May.We are unable to accept applications for exchange after this date due to high volume.

Your application should contain a portfolio of your work - 15-20 images usually on a CD, two references from your home school and a personal statement outlining your artistic interests and how you feel these will be met at GSA. You may upload your portfolio to a file share site and send us the link if you prefer, but please note that we CAN NOT accept portfolios as email attachments, and we will not send your portfolio for review if you send it like this.

Applications for the Schools of Fine Art and Design are accepted for Term 1 (September-December) or Term 2 (January - March). For the Mackintosh School of Architecture students must study for the full academic year. Please make sure you indicate on your application form the Department in which you wish to study. We are unable to accept incoming exchange applications onto our one-year Master's programmes.

Exchange students do not pay tuition fees to The Glasgow School of Art for their period of study at the School. They continue to pay tuition fees at their home institution. They may however be asked while entering the country to show proof of adequate funds to support their stay.

EU students may be eligible for a grant from their home institution.

Students will have to finance their own travel, accommodation and living expenses while studying at the School on the exchange programme. Field trips and materials will be an added expense depending on the course of study.
