Award

BArch (Hons) or BArch (Ord) Exemption from Part 1 of RIBA/ARB Examination in Architecture. All GSA degrees are validated by the University of Glasgow, a Russell Group institution in the top 1% of the world’s universities.

Assessment

Peer and staff review, formative and summative assessment, with continuous feedback from tutorials. Lecture courses are assessed by essay, coursework and formal written examinations.

Facilities
Studio space, workshops for wood and metal work; specialist equipment for making architectural models; a photographic studio and darkrooms; a reprographics and audiovisual base; a lighting lab including heliodon and model-scope and an architectural science computer suite. the Grace and Clark Fyfe Gallery, cafe bar, technical library and RIBA Information Service.

Programme Overview

The Bachelor of Architecture programme leads to an Ordinary or Honours degree and to exemption from Part 1 of the Examination in Architecture of the ARB/ RIBA at the end of Year 3 full-time study or Year 4 part-time study. The full-time mode takes a minimum of three years for the Ordinary degree and four years for the Honours degree. Full-time students are required to undertake a year of practical training in an approved architect's office between Years 3 and 4. The decision on whether a student progresses to Year 4 Honours study is made at the end of the Year 3 and is based on attaining a certain standard in studio work and examinations.

BArch is also available as a part-time mode which takes a minimum of four years for the Ordinary degree. Students undertaking this part-time mode must be employed in an approved architect's office. Applications to the part-time mode should be made directly to the school.
