Product Design Engineering How to Apply >

All applications for full-time, undergraduate study must be made through UCAS (Universities and Colleges Admissions Service).  Please note as this programme is a joint programme with Glasgow University, the programme uses the Glasgow University UCAS code.

Entry Requirements

BEng route (4 year course)

Highers:  AAAB in first sitting, including Mathematics and Physics = unconditional offer. Applicants who achieved highers between BBB and AABB at their first sitting may recieve a cnditional or unconditional offer once all applications have been reviewed in March 2013. Conditional offers will include the requirement of BA or AB in Mathematics and Physics.

A Levels: ABB including Mathematics and Physics

MEng route (5 year course)

Highers: AAABB/AAAA in first sitting including Maths and Physics at AB/BA = unconditional offer. Applicants who achieved between BBB and AABBB/AAAB at their first sitting may recieve a cnditional or unconditional offer once all applications have been reviewed in March 2013. Conditional offers will include the requirement of BA or AB in Mathematics and Physics.

A Levels: AAB including Maths and Physics

MEng Accelerated Route (4 year course)

Applicants are expected to demonstrate that they have attained the normal Year 1 studio standard and require Scottish Advanced Higher at AB Physics and Maths, plus AB in two other Highers, including an Art or Design subject, or A Levels at AAB in Maths and Physics, and an Art or Design subject.

Because this is an engineering degree, candidates will require Mathematics and Physics (or Engineering or Technological Studies).

English Language Requirements

Generally the School expects all students to demonstrate proficiency in the English language, which for UK students is normally shown by a Higher or GCSE in English. International applicants for product design engineering will normally be expected to provide evidence of attainment equivalent to:

  • Academic IELTS 6.0 (no less than 5.5 in each component); TOEFL (ibt) 79 (no less than 20 in each component)

Interview

At present, the Stage 1 application process does not involve a formal interview.

BEng/MEng applicants who have been made formal offers (conditional or unconditional) will be invited to an Applicants' Day, where they will have the opportunity to meet PDE staff and be shown the facilities within the Department and the School. Applicants will be also invited to take part in small group discussions that cover important aspects of the course and provide an opportunity to ask questions.

Accelerated Entry (Fast Track) candidates will be called for interview which will generally take place during an Applicants' Day. Candidates will be invited to complete a short design assignment prior to the interview and this will be discussed with a member of PDE staff. Candidates unable to attend in person will be asked to complete the design assignment and be available for interview by telephone.
