Lorna Edmiston (Drawing and Painting 1980)

Lorna Edmiston was born in Glasgow, and graduated from Glasgow School of Art in 1980. She studied Drawing and Painting under James D. Robertson and Barbara Rae, and as a student, her work was selected for exhibition at the Royal Scottish Academy.

She was elected a member of the Glasgow Society of Women Artists, and began teaching in Glasgow. She then went on to teach art as a university lecturer in Bournemouth and Cardiff, in addition to her own practice. In 2018, she left teaching to work full-time as a professional artist.

Her current work is based on locations from Brittany, west Wales and the Jurassic coast in Dorset. The subject matter of landscape is the starting point to engage intuitively with mark making in her Cardiff studio. Her work resides in the area between figuration and abstraction, with the sensuous use of paint belonging to a long established tradition in Scottish art.

Her work has been exhibited in a number of institutions in the UK, as well as in Germany and the USA.
