Janice trained as a Building Services Engineer and worked for eight years with well-known multi-disciplinary engineers Arup and Buro Happold designing heating and ventilation systems in commercial buildings in Scotland and overseas. She led the sustainable design of the award winning Edinburgh office for Buro Happold which was a regional winner for British Council for Offices and won the Edinburgh Architectural Award Medal for Conservation and Regeneration 2010.
Janice joined MEARU in 2013 as a part-time researcher which allowed her to complete her MSc Architecture in Advanced Environment and Energy Studies at the Centre for Alternative Technology in Wales, while undertaking a variety of BPE projects. She now is employed as a full-time researcher at MEARU where her building services design experience has both helped with BPE projects and with tutoring architecture students with their final year projects. Janice recently qualified as a Certified Passive House Designer (2015) and her other specialisms include ventilation, heating, energy assessments, renewable energy, healthy building materials and thermal mass.
