After graduating from Edinburgh College of Art and the Royal College of Art, Andrew quickly established himself as one of the leading contemporary jewellery designer makers in the UK. He balances his time between lecturing, designing, making and exhibiting. Recent work has been acquired for prestigious collections including the Crafts Council, London, The Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths’ London and Aberdeen Museum and Art Gallery. In 2012 Andrew was invited by the Society for Jewellery Historians to speak about his jewellery and research developments and other guest speaking roles include Musashino Art University, Tokyo and Hiko Mizunio School of Jewellery, Japan and The Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths’, London.
Andrew, an Honorary Member of The World Crafts Council Europe, has received multiple awards for his work. Most recently Technological Innovation Gold Prize and Contemporary Jewellery IJL Award – Gold, at the Craftsmanship and Design Awards London. In 2010 he also won the prestigious Arts foundation Fellowship Award for jewellery.
Research interests are based around traditional practice and methods that date back many centuries yet “..Andrew Lamb has breathed new life into the whole concept of twisted wire and has made some remarkable contemporary pieces of work..” Professor Dorothy Hogg MBE. His work explores visual illusion and optical principles to create jewellery with an added dimension, employing experiments in precious alloying and laser welding that are innovative and push the boundaries of metalwork and craft.
