Paul’s research and teaching centres on participatory design practice, the circular economy and sustainable innovation. He has collaborated on projects with private and public partners such as the NHS, Scottish Government, Hewlett Packard, Barclays, and Zero Waste Scotland. Paul completed his PhD in advanced manufacturing at Lancaster University in 2011. He has presented EPSRC and AHRC funded design research on both co-design and sustainable design for the circular economy. In his current role, he teaches on topics including the circular economy and sustainable healthcare innovation.
His research portfolio includes work on sustainable textiles, open design practices, rural maker spaces, digital health care, and NHS service innovation. His work adopts participatory approaches to design and uses participatory methods to be inclusive of different disciplines and research domains.
As a supervisor, his main interest is in supervising MRes and PhD students with an interest in the circular economy, and sustainable design, and in participatory research methods.
