GSA is excited to be hosting this year’s International Journal for Art and Design Education conference titled ‘Sustainability in Creative Arts Education’ on the 6th and 7th of November 2015.

Sustainability has become a growing focus for many educators and practitioners in the visual arts. This year’s iJADE conference addresses sustainability in the context of art and design education, and invites papers that investigate this topic from a variety of angles. The following may serve as a guide for intending speakers:

  • Understanding sustainability: theory and practice in art and design education and beyond;
  • The politics of sustainability in art and design education;
  • The fundamentals of environmental sustainability: mobilising art and design education to address key challenges;
  • Thinking sustainably: teacher/learner relationships and innovations in curriculum development;
  • Technology and sustainable practices in art and design education;
  • Collaboration and the importance of networks in creating sustainable practices;
  • Interdisciplinarity and creative practice: the role of art/design practitioners and educators in engaging the public in discourses around sustainability;
  • Critical perspectives on sustainability, globalisation, and art and design education;
  • Sustainability in contemporary art and culture;
  • Environmental sustainability: the artist/designer as activist;

The call for papers is live and abstracts of no more than 150 words can be submitted to ijade@chester.ac.uk by 30th September 2015.

Full details on the conference including information on registration, fees and speakers are available on the conference website here.

The conference coincides with the Turner Prize Exhibition, to be held at Tramway, Glasgow (1 October 2015 – 4 January  2016).
