Methods of Making

Lara’s work focuses on enabling design and innovation for the betterment of the city. 

With a multidisciplinary design and strategy background, she has worked in architectural and urban design practices, academia, local government and the charity sector for the past 15 years. She is a member of the Northern Ireland Ministerial Advisory Group for Architecture and the Built Environment, co-ordinates a network on Urban Governance in UN Habitat’s Universities Network Initiative, and is currently completing a PhD entitled ‘Enabling the Practice of Design within the Governance of the City’

Lewis was previously an associate of Carmody Groarke, winners of the BD’s Young Architect of the Year Award in 2007 and the AR’s Emerging Architect Award in 2010, before establishing Kinneir architects in 2018. Lewis has experience in diverse fields such as industrial design prototyping, construction management and property portfolio management.

Prior to working with Carmody Groarke, Lewis worked for Richard Rogers Partnership (now Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners) as well as Haworth Tompkins. He has tutored at the Bartlett School of Architecture and at the Royal College of Art, alongside Kevin Carmody and Andrew Groarke. Following working as a prototype model-maker, Lewis studied at the Mackintosh School of Architecture in Glasgow, completing his studies at the Architectural Association.
