'Recent Writing and Performances' listen to audio recording

Writing is at the heart of Melanie's practice, ranging from published articles on art, politics and finance for magazines, to film scripts and essay-fictions. In the case of the performance 'The Miner's Object,' which contains stories within a story, her text becomes a script delivered by an actress. In her presentation Melanie will discuss aspects of such recent performance work, her writing and other research.

Born in Toronto, Canada, Melanie Gilligan currently lives and works in London. Her performances and other work have recently been shown in venues such as Greene Naftali Gallery and Orchard Gallery in New York, and the Serpentine Gallery and Tate Britain in London. Her writings have been published in Texte zur Kunst, Artforum and Mute magazines.

Melanie Gilligan's exhibition Prison for Objects was on display at Transmission Gallery, Glasgow from April to May 2008 as part of Glasgow International (Gi).
