The Drawing Studio 2

This is the second in an ongoing series of 'The Drawing Studio' workshops, where participants are invited to draw the exhibitions in The Mackintosh Museum, which historically acted as a Drawing Studio for the first students at The Glasgow School of Art.

The aim of this drawing workshop is to focus on the contemporary figurative sculptures of Folkert de Jong using the blind contour drawing technique.

The workshop will be a 2 hour session led by M.Litt Painting Postgraduate student Blandine Bardeau. She will invite students to draw Folkert de Jong's sculptures using the blind contour drawing technique, thus concentrating on observation rather than producing a "good" result. The experience is both freeing and surprising, as the blind drawings are always unusual. The students will also be invited to concentrate on patches of colour only, then on spaces in between, as well as mixing-up blind contour and "normal" drawing. The aim of the workshop is to open-up avenues for students to take into their practice, to let go of some of the control we impose on our artworks and their production, and of course to enjoy the simple pleasures of drawing!

Materials needed: drawing materials such as pencils, pens, watercolour crayons, watercolour, colour pencils, felt pens, pastels, charcoal (etc.). Sheets of paper to draw onto, or a sketch pad/ sketchbook (sizes as preferred).

Date: Tuesday, 24th April 17:00 - 19:00
Places: 15
Cost: Free
This workshop is for students only
