This is the first in an ongoing series of 'The Drawing Studio' workshops, where participants are invited to draw the exhibitions in The Mackintosh Museum, which historically acted as a Drawing Studio for the first students at The Glasgow School of Art.
The aim of this drawing workshop is to provide a link for participants between the historical and the contemporary, by focusing on the historical plaster casts alongside the contemporary figurative sculpture of Folkert de Jong.
The workshop is divided into two sessions and led by cast
drawing expert Cynthia Bowles. She will outline the process of
developing a cast study and provide workshop participants the
opportunity to draw from the dramatically lit traditional casts in
the first session. Each stage will be discussed and demonstrated
giving participants a solid grounding to then move onto the second
session where they will draw from the sculptures in Folkert de
Jong's exhibition. One-to-one support will be provided throughout
the workshop.
This project has been supported by the GI Festival and the
Mondriaan Fund.
