Wednesday 20 April 2016
Book online via Eventbrite
Head of the Mackintosh School of Architecture, Professor Christopher Platt will give a short talk about a recent collaborative research project on the subject of Charles Rennie Mackintosh and the Mackintosh Library at the Glasgow School of Art. This is followed by a presentation from 'The Three R's of the Mackintosh Project'.
The Three R’s of the Mackintosh Project
The Three R’s (Recovery, Restoration and Research) is an internal GSA working group that meets regularly to discuss and work collaboratively on practical aspects of the restoration project. Recently, they have been working closely on key elements of the library to support the work being undertaken by the project team towards a faithful reconstruction of the lost interior. Sarah MacKinnon, Mackintosh Restoration Project Manager, will discuss the group’s approach to assessing the library lights for conservation and reconstruction. Polly Christie, the Recovery Project Lead for Archives & Collections, will report on the status of library-related collections, and the unique opportunities the recovery project has created for them. Robyne Calvert, Mackintosh Research Fellow will explore some of the more intangible aspects of Mackintosh’s approach to the decorative programme in the library, and how some of the lost scheme has been recovered through collaborative research.
This event is part of GSA Research Week 2016. Running from 18th - 22nd April, the week comprises a range of talks and events showcasing research and researchers at The Glasgow School of Art - all welcome.
