Wassailing Mackintosh
A talk by Dr. Robyne Calvert
Free
Tues 1 Dec 2015 at 1:15pm
Principal Seminar Room 1, Reid building
At the Ingram Street Tearoom in 1900, Mackintosh and his new wife Margaret Macdonald created together two gesso panels on the subjects of winter's sleep and summer's rebirth, The May Queen and The Wassail. These symbolic themes of life, death, and ressurection are also found in the shamanic inspired work of Grace Ndiritu, currently on display in the Reid Gallery. Dr. Robyne Calvert, the GSA's Mackintosh Research Fellow, will discuss these themes across the collaborative work of the Mackintoshes alongside Ndiritu's transformative artwork.
Warm cider and mince pies will be served as well for some festive cheer!
