Workshop: Shapes of an Art School
4 & 6 March 2015, 10:00 - 12:00
Reid Gallery

This workshop provides a chance to create a set of objects which will be sold in Grizedale Arts Honest Shop in Coniston, The Lake District, where proceeds will go to their next local community project.

The Honest Shop is currently part of Grizedale Arts' exhibition The Politics of Craft: After Ford 151 at Reid Gallery until 8 March.

The Honest Shop is a way of working with communities and creating a new economy. The simple premise is that local suppliers, makers and artists bring homemade produce to be sold in "an honest manner".

Shapes of an Art School will consist of two separate workshops. The first workshop participants will have the opportunity to experiment with texture, scale and function to create a series of small clay objects. Laser cut stencils, inspired by visuals from throughout The Glasgow School of Art, have been designed especially for the project and after use will also be sold in Grizedale. The clay objects produced in the first workshop will provide a canvas for the participants on the 6th of March who will decorate and paint them, ready for selling in Grizedale.

These workshops have been designed to allow participants to further consider themes from the exhibition such as functionality and collaboration. Both workshops on the 4th and 6th of March will take place in the Reid Gallery. All materials will be provided but please wear appropriate clothing/apron.

To book a free place in the workshop please contact Talitha Kotze on t.kotze@gsa.ac.uk or 01413534538.

The workshop has been devised by and will be led by MLitt in Curatorial Practices student Emma Campbell. Emma Campbell is currently doing a work placement with GSA Exhibitions. She is a GSA graduate of Silversmithing and Jewellery.
