Programme Overview

Online Portfolio Workshop:
Reinterpretation of Readymade Objects through Creative Processes - 2D/3D

This two-week project-based course is designed to equip students with the independent learning skills to continue to develop work on their own for use in an undergraduate portfolio for art school. It is suitable for students looking to apply for entry in 2021 or 2022 and is designed to be done alongside school work. It can be done from home without the need for access to specialist equipment.

Students will be encouraged to experiment through the exploration of new process-based methods of working and making. The course will give an insight into the utilisation and manipulation of different materials as a means to achieve creative and inventive outcomes.

Having initially constructed three-dimensional sculptural works through manipulating and combining found, ready-made objects and materials, students will then proceed to develop a body of two-dimensional observational renderings of their structures through a variety of experimental observational drawing techniques, processes and approaches.

This body of work will then be referenced by students as they further develop more unique, interpretive outcomes that can begin to inform their own visual language and become integrated throughout their own individual practices.

The three projects covered in this course are:

Project One: 3D MAKING
Self Created Structures – to construct, deconstruct, connect, combine, and reassemble readymade objects, using various sculptural material manipulation techniques

Project Two: EXPERIMENTAL OBSERVATIONAL DRAWIMG
Investigate the self-created structures through analytical, experimental and observational drawing, painting and other forms of rendering (both monochromatically and in colour). Students will render in different scales and formats, carefully considering composition, using a variety of materials, techniques and approaches.

Project Three: INTERPRETIVE FURTHER DEVELOPED OUTCOMES
Develop more interpretative responses and further development of ideas through graphical techniques, including identifying and isolating details and forms from their body of work which can then be further developed creatively through collage and tracing, as part of an exploration into abstraction through simplification, exaggeration, repetition, pattern and stylisation of forms.

All three projects will touch upon various facets and ideas that can be explored through fine art, design and architecture practice and will demonstrate innovative and creative processes that can be deployed throughout the development of outcomes and resolutions.
