Programme Overview

This 12 week course is aimed specifically at 5th Year secondary school students who are interested in application to HE/FE Art and Design courses.

With drawing as its foundation, the course will expand your creative practice through a variety of exciting and dynamic approaches to 2D and 3D forms of making. We will strengthen your core skills while also expanding your practice through experimental techniques. An integral component of the course is resourcing and exploring ideas through independent sketchbook work, which should extend your practice out with the virtual studio and class hours.

The live sessions will be delivered through Zoom and Padlet, providing a virtual shared studio environment - details and links will be sent to you in your individual course confirmation email.

Prior to booking the course, please ensure the following:

  • Good Internet connection - we recommend a minimum of 2Mbps download and 1Mbps upload. You can test your network speed here.
  • An up-to-date web browser
  • Suitable device such as mobile phone/laptop/iPad etc
  • Webcam from mobile phone/laptop, or separate

Bursaries
As part of the School’s strategy to encourage participation in Further and Higher Education from currently underrepresented groups, a system of bursary support is available for the S5 and S6 Portfolio courses. One bursary place is available in each. This support is aimed at children of low-income and/or unemployed parents/guardians/carers who would otherwise be unable to join the course. Our aim is to offer direct assistance to such students in the form of a fee waiver directly from the department. Please contact the Open Studio team for a bursary form: l.garner@gsa.ac.uk / f.bell@gsa.ac.uk
