Recomposing the archive: rearticulating memories of Iraqi diaspora using archive photography, oral history and Virtual Reality.

Primary Supervisor: Dr Matthieu Poyade
Co-Supervisor: Ronan Breslin

This PhD research is concerned with utilising archive photographs, audio-visual oral histories and Virtual Reality (VR) to explore the creative reconstruction of photographic moments and associated memories of the Iraqi pre-war history. Using photographic archives of Iraqi diaspora in the UK and Ireland as a primary source, I will use practice-led visual methodologies, critical analysis of case studies, and theoretical frameworks including include Photography and Film Theory and Cultural Studies, to recompose archive material to articulate hidden histories within VR. This research will result in a public exhibition of artworks, including a curated selection of photographs, oral history films, and VR experiences.
