Errant lives in histories of art, and/or visual culture
The School of Fine Art (SoFA) at The Glasgow School of Art invites proposals for PhD study with Professor Omar Kholeif (Professor of Global Art Theory and Practice) from researchers who are able to pursue self-funded doctoral study that explores ‘errant’ lives in the history of art, and/or visual culture.
Errant in this context can be broadly understood as lives that exist within the interstices of formally sanctioned institutional histories—that which official record elides due to configurations of ethnicity, gender, religion, sexuality, exiled status, or likewise, stories that eschew narration because of the irability to temporarily pass as part of an extant framework of power and/or empire.
We are interested to hear from prospective scholars who seek to present revisionist modes of historical narration, or that explore hybrid modes of historical study via both practice-based and theoretical modes of inquiry, documentation and dissemination.
This overview is intended as an invitation for a conversation around your specific research topic and mode(s) of enquiry, as opposed to an enclosed framework. We are particularly eager to hear from individuals who hail from a multitude of disciplinary backgrounds, such as (but not exclusive to): anthropology, sociology, fine art, curatorial practice, politics, and film.
This opportunity is available in full-time and part-time mode as well as on-campus (Glasgow) or By Distance.
