Entry Requirements

Undergraduate Degrees

To apply to the GSA, you will need to meet or be on track to achieve our academic requirements, submit a digital portfolio of your work, and, for most programmes, attend an interview. Your academic qualifications show that you have the potential to succeed at degree level, while your portfolio demonstrates the strength of your creative abilities and your potential to succeed in our studio-based learning environment. The interview (if selected) gives us a chance to get to know you better, understand your creative approach, and see how you might develop as part of our community.

Unless otherwise stated in ‘Programme Specific Requirements’ below, we will accept the following qualifications for entry to Year 1 of our Undergraduate programmes in September 2027. If the qualification you are currently studying towards is not listed, please contact admissions@gsa.ac.uk and we’ll be happy to advise whether it meets our entry requirements.

Standard Entry Requirements:

·     4 Highers at ABBB including a literate subject*

·     3 A-Levels at BBB and GCSE English at Grade A/7

Minimum Entry Requirements:

·     4 Highers at BBCC including a literate subject*

·     3 A Levels at BCC and GCSE English at Grade A/7

*Literate subjects include English, Business Management, Classical Studies, Economics, ESOL, Geography, History, Media Studies, Modern Studies, Philosophy, Politics, Psychology, Religious Studies, Sociology.

Programme Specific Requirements

Programmes: BA(Hons) Architecture, BSc (Hons) Interior Architecture & BSc (Hons) Environmental Architecture

Standard Entry Requirements:

·     4 Highers at ABBB including a literate subject* and Maths or Physics

·     3 A Levels at BBB including Maths or Physics, and GCSE English at Grade A/7

Minimum Entry Requirements:

·     4 Highers at BBCC including a literate subject* and Maths or Physics

·     3 A Levels at BCC including Maths or Physics, and GCSE English at Grade A/7

Programmes: BEng/MEng Product Design Engineering and BEng/MEng Civil Engineering with Architecture

Programmes BA (Hons) Fashion Narrative & BDes (Hons) Sound:

These programmes do not offer entry to Year 1. Both programmes commence at Year 2 and are completed over three years. As such, applicants must hold an appropriate advanced qualification, as outlined in our Direct Entry requirements below.

Direct Entry to Year 2 or Year 3

Depending on your qualifications and experience, you may be eligible to be considered for advanced entry to any of our undergraduate programmes. The typical qualifications accepted for entry to each year of studyare outlined below.

Standard Entry Requirements to Year 2:

·     Higher National Certificate (HNC)

·     A-Levels – ABB

·     Pearson BTEC Extended Diploma - DDM

·     Scottish Advanced Highers – BCC

·     Level 3/4 Diploma – Merit and above

Standard Entry Requirements to Year 3:

·     Higher National Diploma (HND)

We may also consider applicants for advanced entry based on credits successfully completed through previous study at another higher education institution, or through Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL). Entry to Year 2 or Year 3 will depend on the level, volume and relevance of prior learning to the programme and will be assessed on an individual basis.
